Collaborative working on Major Projects
Is recent thinking on collaboration significantly different from alliancing or partnering? Do these approaches seek to engender a working relationship based on openness and trust, leading to or benefiting from longer-term contracts and framework appointments?
At the beginning of 2012, BS 11000 was launched jointly by government and businesses to encourage better working relationships, including those with SMEs. SMEs frequently deliver over half of total capital expenditure on major projects, and this was a valuable opportunity to consider how to incorporate them within a collaborative working environment.
This half day seminar enabled delegates to explore the merits and challenges of collaboration, and what needs to change to make it happen more often than it does. The seminar chairman, Brendan Morahan, Director, Invennt, pointed out that it is not enough to surround yourself with experts; the difficult part is getting them to work together, which may mean individuals changing the way they have worked in the past.
