Delivering Public Projects – What is best practice?

Public sector projects have their own challenges and difficulties beyond those promoted and funded by the private sector. For example, they are subject to high levels of democratic scrutiny, including transparency, accountability and political oversight, and can be subjected to delays and interventions particularly around affordability and financing. Based on the requirements of central government departments, the National Infrastructure Plan 2011, the Infrastructure Cost Review, and the influence of the 2012 Budget, delegates heard how the pipeline of major projects and the long-term ambitions for different sectors are developing. Through presentations and discussion, this full day seminar addressed the definition and scope of the pipeline, the financing of public projects, and the route to procurement. These topics were further developed with three case studies.
