Developing and implementing a Sustainability Management System for the Games

Summary

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) recognised that it needed an effective management framework in place to enable it to deliver on its sustainability commitments. It developed a Sustainability Management System (SMS) which evolved as the organisation matured and increased significantly in size. This case study provides an overview of how the SMS evolved over the years leading up to and during the Games and the learning that was gained.
