Summary
The Olympic and Paralympic Games is the world’s largest broadcast operation bringing sports action to an estimated five billion people. This meant that the high definition television (HDTV) lighting had to be perfect. However recent advances in broadcast technologies meant that existing design guidelines were insufficient to meet these requirements. A specialist Broadcast Lighting Overlay (BLO) Advisor was brought in to resolve challenges such as light flicker camera glare, excessive reflections and spectator illumination. This micro-report highlights some of the corrective actions that were required in the venues to achieve broadcast-quality lighting.
