Innovation in transport

This National Audit Office report examines whether the Department for Transport’s (DfT’s) support for innovation in transport is delivering value for money. It outlines DfT’s growing focus on innovation across areas including decarbonisation, digital technologies and transport services, and reviews how funding, regulation and partnerships are being used to support innovation activity across the sector.

The report also explores how DfT manages and coordinates its innovation programmes, compares its approach with that of Network Rail, National Highways and HS2 Ltd, and highlights wider challenges around procurement, risk and the commercial adoption of new technologies.
