London 2012Olympic Park site ground investigation – innovative approach to drilling
Summary
The first priority for the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), before starting work on site in 2007, was to determine the extent of contamination and remediation required for the 256 hectare Olympic Park site. Specialist contractors undertook the site investigation works involving 3,500 investigation points at 25 metre centres across the site. This involved drilling holes up to 50m deep to reach the ‘Thanet Sands or Chalk’ and gravels.
