London 2012Reducing and compensating the Games carbon footprint
Summary
London 2012 was the first summer Games to attempt to map a complete carbon footprint of the Games over the entire project term, starting with a baseline reference footprint and monitoring reductions against this through several annual iterations. This research summary seeks to draw together the achievements and lessons learned from developing and delivering London 2012’s carbon management strategy, starting with a summary of the final carbon footprint of the Games and then focusing on three key areas; overlay, venue energy use and carbon compensation.
