Crossrail Stakeholder Consultation Document – May 2002

Summary

This document was produced to inform stakeholders and seek views on the shortlisted route options for Crossrail during the Stakeholder Consultation from May to July 2002. The results of that consultation fed into the development of the preferred route for the scheme and the first business case produced by Cross London Rail Links Limited. It will be of use to major project promoters who are seeking views on a set of options for a scheme.

Lessons Learned and Recommendations for Future Projects

  • Summarising each option on its own page enabled a clear comparison
  • The document was an appropriate length
  • Publishing the Appraisal Framework for comment was a good example of engaging stakeholders in the process

Future projects could:

  • Publicise such a consultation more widely than CLRL did, especially with the greater ability to use online media than was available in 2002
  • Include questions and prompts to set the agenda and encourage response, rather than an open ended request for comments (though care should be taken not to lead or appear to lead the respondents
