NISTA Major Projects Annual Report 2025-26

The NISTA Major Projects Annual Report 2025–26 provides an annual snapshot of the Government Major Projects Portfolio (GMPP) as at 31 March 2026, before significant reforms to the portfolio took effect on 1 April 2026. The report covers 189 of the UK government’s most complex and strategically significant projects and programmes, with a combined whole-life cost of £924.2 billion and expected monetised benefits of £603.6 billion, spanning 20 government departments and their arm’s-length bodies.

It examines portfolio performance, delivery confidence, costs and benefits, project categories, and departmental performance, while outlining NISTA’s role in assurance, capability building and supporting better project delivery across government. The report also explains the rationale for the reformed GMPP, which from April 2026 focuses on around 80 of the highest-priority projects, while emphasising that this publication reflects the portfolio as it stood at the end of the 2025–26 reporting year.
